According to AF-Studio.pl and Super Monitoring, some of the latest mobile growth statistics for 2013 are:
- 91% of all people on earth have a mobile phone.
- 56% of them own a smart phone.
- 50% of the average global mobile web users now use mobile as either their primary or exclusive means of going online.
This is proof that people now are relying on their mobile devices more than their laptops or desktops especially for browsing purposes. Brad Frost quoted that "Mobile users will do anything and everything desktop users will do, provided it's presented in a usable way." This is something to ponder upon for those who are in the business field, especially restaurateurs.
With the increasing demand and usage of mobile devices, these are the ways a restaurant can go mobile:
- Mobile friendly website
*57% of mobile phone users say they won't recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site.
Therefore, a restaurant's website is just not enough, even though smart phone could access most of the websites, but some websites are not coded to be mobile friendly, this difficult those customers who are on the go and need the restaurant's information quick. A restaurant having a better website for mobile could attract more customers in a long run.
- Mobile application
*80% of mobile time is spent in apps.
Mobile applications are part of today's essentials, it is hassle free and users just need to tap on an application to access all its information and services. For a restaurant to have an application is like leaving a candy on the table top, ants will magically attracted to it, same here, loyal and future customers will be attracted to the application. The application is a perfect platform to promote the restaurant and food, provide contact details, menu, restaurant promotions and get customer's feedback.
- QR codes
QR codes are like bar codes where when it is scanned, information will be shown, but QR codes are more mobile friendly and it could contain more information than the usual bar codes. You could easily create a QR code online to connect it with the restaurant's websites, applications, promotions and so on. Then place it in the restaurant, website or even on serviettes, this is one way to attract customers, they just need to scan the code using their smart phones and will automatically be directed to the source.
- Text messaging
Text messaging would be the easiest way to go mobile, because not everyone has a smartphone but everyone has a mobile phone. There are quite a few companies in Malaysia that does bulk messaging, you just need to type one message and they will help deliver it to your lists of customers, with some charges of course. All you need to do is to get customer's phone number, and you could do that by ask them to fill up a feedback form or answer a question by sms-ing the answer to get a discount or other ethical ways.
